Quick Apply: Chrome Browser Extension for External Apply

Brief description: 78% of the jobs on our platform are external apply jobs, yet the core value prop candidates love about Untapped is the one-click apply feature. We’ll build a browser extension that auto-fills job applications for external apply roles.

🌎 Context

HYPOTHESIS: Save Candidates Time; Prove ROI to Customers

By providing candidates a fast, simple way to fill out a higher volume of job applications we will 1) deliver on a core value prop of our platform, 2) differentiate our experience from competitors, and 3) ultimately, drive up our PMF with candidates.

Simultaneously, we’ll give customers more visibility into the value of Untapped by proving the ROI of our job board, which increases the chance of renewal (read: ARR).

The Problem

For Candidates

We learned in our previous product market fit surveys with candidates that using 1-click apply is the second most valuable offering (after access to jobs) for candidates that love us.

But, majority of our jobs (~75+%) require external apply - candidates click “Apply” and are taken to a new site where they have to fill in information over and over again.

This is a top pain point for our users who feel that we haven’t set expectations, but also the top pain point for any job seeker, even those not on Untapped.

For Companies

Customers who use external apply do not have a clear way to measure the ROI of this feature. This makes it more difficult during renewal conversations as we have no way to prove the volume of applications driven by Untapped.

For Untapped

We need to be able to more accurately prove ROI to customers as budgets are tightening and there are less dollars to spend. By having more visibility into the impact of external apply we’re able to start optimizing future recommendations to drive more applications to roles that we really need to.

Additionally, we’ve started scraping jobs for prospects to show them how many candidates are interested in their roles as a way to prove the value of Untapped.

Up to this point, we’ve only been able to track clicks on the external apply button, not conversions to applications. Our hypothesis is that because it requires a lot of effort, candidates are converting at a low rate.

We recently rolled out a feature that tracks external apply for GH customers with a bi-directional sync. This is a small step in the right direction.
